Orthodontic Imaging Techniques

The initial consultation with our orthodontist is mostly for evaluation, routine check-up or to identify the cause of the prevailing orthodontic condition. Today, the type of X-ray used during the comprehensive examination can deliver instant results, making it convenient for the orthodontist to quickly identify the problem and determine treatment.

A CEPH X-Ray takes pictures of the lateral or side view of the face. The complete radiographic image provides a way to view the teeth, jawbone and soft tissues that cannot be seen with the naked eye. This profile view of one's face displays the bones and facial contours on a single film for a more accurate diagnosis. This type of X-ray is primarily used in the orthodontic planning and treatment process.

Digital X-ray

Offering superior resolution with less radiation exposure, digital radiography at your Oklahoma City orthodontist is an excellent way to help diagnose oral problems. Digital X-rays not only use 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays but are also much less time-consuming.

Using a small radiographic camera that is only slightly larger than a pen, we capture images of each tooth. This technology eliminates the need for developing or chemical processing of the images. Instead, they appear instantly on a computer screen as each scan is complete. By shifting the angle of the imaging wand only slightly, the orthodontist can capture every surface of every tooth.
